Brian Wilson sets Sarasota concert date
If you're a Brian Wilson fan, you were no doubt thrilled that he was bringing his "Pet Sounds" tour to the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg. So you'll probably be ecstatic to learn he'll be playing even closer to home, and a little bit sooner.
Wilson, along with former Beach Boys Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin, have just added a date at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota. They'll be there on Sept. 11, two days before their St. Petersburg show.
It's the 50th anniversary of "Pet Sounds," which has come to be widely regarded as a masterpiece of modern music, and as a strong influence on the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hears Club Band."
Wilson and his band are kicking off the world tour March 26 in New Zealand, returning to the United States June 14 and touring the country through Oct. 15. They're performing "Pet Sounds" in its entirety -- its hits include "Wouldn't It Be Nice," Sloop John B," "God Only Knows" and "Caroline, No" -- along with other hits Beach Boys hits and songs from Wilson's solo albums.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Feb. 19. The price range is $35-$125. Call 941-953-3368 or go to vanwezel.org. It's likely to sell out quickly so don't wait too long.
