Kate Weare Company presents 'Unstruck' in Sarasota
Kate Weare has been a star in the contemporary dance world for many years, especially since she founded the Kate Weare Company in New York City in 2005.
She and her company have performed all over the world, but her work is especially popular with Sarasota audiences. The company has performed twice before as part of the New Stages series at the Ringling, and it returns for two performances this weekend.
The program is one evening-length piece titled "Unstruck," which Weare created in a collaboration with composer Curtis Macdonald. The Ringling people describe it as "an intimate trio of unceasing contact and energetic exchange, an ever-morphing sculpture of dance."
Like many of Weare's pieces, it's noted for the sensuality of its movement.
In addition to the performances, Weare and her dancers will be at the Ringling at 2 p.m. Saturday for a program titled "Conversation with the Choreographer" in which they'll talk about the company's evolution since it first appeared at the Ringling in 2011.
Details: 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12-13, the Ringling, 5401 Bay Shore Road, Sarasota. Tickets: $25 -$30. Information: 941-358-3180, ringling.org.
