The Ten Tenors perform a holiday show in Sarasota
There's a bit of irony, probably unintended, in the title of the show that the Ten Tenors will perform in Sarasota.
It's called "Home for the Holidays," and the Australian performers could hardly be farther from home.
Besides that, the show consist largely of Christmas songs -- "Joy to the World," "Sleigh Ride" and "White Christmas" among them, and Christmas, and almost all the other holidays of the season, have already passed.
It doesn't much matter, though. The Ten Tenors -- who have a constantly evolving lineup that has included more than 50 members over 20 years -- put on hugely entertaining shows no matter what songs they're singing.
So even though their doing a Christmas show on New Year's Eve at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, it's bound to be a great time.
They're all classical singers, but they use their distinctive voices to a wide range of musical styles, from opera and classical to pop, rock and Broadway. You're likely to hear numbers by Bach, Leonard Cohen and AC/DC in the same concert, and no matter what your own taste you're likely to enjoy them all. Their stage shows are full of energy, personality and virtuosity.
Details: 7 p.m. Dec. 31, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Tickets: $50-$80. Information: 941-953-3368, vanwezel.org.
