Sarasota Contemporary Dance presents annual Voices concert
This will be the last season for Voices of Fuzion.
For the past few years, the annual concert that focuses on new works has been a popular element of the company formerly known as Fuzion Dance Artists. Now that Fuzion has changed its name to Sarasota Contemporary Dance, the concert needed a new name as well. After this year it will just be known as Voices. But the works in this years concert were developed over the summer, when the company was still called Fuzion. So company officials decided to keep the name for one more year.
Voices of Fuzion is scheduled for four performances beginning Thursday at the FSU Center for the Performing Arts in Sarasota.
The program features four works: Erin Fletchers new multi-media contemporary dance piece, When Dawn Comes Knocking, set to an original score by Edward Cosla and media designs by artist Lee Dahlberg and photographer Omarr Ortego; Xiao-Xuan Yang Dancigers under the silence, which explores dance movement inspired by sounds heard flickering through walls or whispered in the next room, with original music by Mark Danciger; Benjamin Howes Remixed M O M O B E is a male-female duet that explores a relationship through a blending of ballet and hip-hop vocabulary; and Timeline, by SDC artistic director Leymis Bolanos Wilmott, which is based on the true story of dancer Stephanie Bastos, an intimate movement piece that explores themes of discovery, identity, loss and freedom in the face of adversity through movement, song and spoken word; and Lily Kinds Dancing With Coyotes, which a reviewer in Baltimore called a virtuosic abstraction.
