Craig Ferguson to perform in Sarasota

Several big-name late-night talk show hosts have quit their jobs in the past couple of years. Craig Ferguson may be the funniest of them all. He certainly had the freshest monologues in the business.

He left "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson" last year, but you can see him again in a few months. He'll be at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota on Dec. 1.

Ferguson's been a busy man since he came to America from his native Scotland back in the 1990s. He's acted in dozens of films and TV shows (including his weekly turn in "The Drew Carey Show"), he's won two Grammy Awards, two Emmy Awards and a Peabody. He's also written a best-selling novel. He's been touring the country doing stand-up pretty much the whole time, including successful shows at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall.

Tickets for his Sarasota performance go on sale on 10 a.m. Friday.

Details: 8 p.m. Dec. 1, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Tickets: $20-$50. Information: 941-953-3368, vanwezel.org.
