Kristin Chenoweth sets Sarasota date

Even if you only know the name of one Broadway performer, it's probably Kristin Chenoweth.

The dynamic singer and actor is one of handful of performers who have won Tony, Grammy and Emmy Awards. She's up for another Tony Award this year, and she'll be co-hosting the Tony Awards ceremony this Sunday.

And in February she'll be coming to Sarasota.

The Van Wezel Performing Arts Center announced Tuesday that Chenoweth will perform a concert there on Feb. 27.

In her live show, Chenoweth sings iconic songs from her best-known shows, including "Wicked" and "On the Twentieth Century," as well as popular standards from Broadway, Hollywood and the Great American Songbook.

Chenoweth won a Tony Award in 1999 for her performance in "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." (She also won Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for that role.) She won a Grammy for the cast recording of "Wicked," in which she played Glinda, and an Emmy for "Pushing Daisies."

She has had several hit singles from her time as a member of the cast of TV's "Glee" and has two dozen film roles to her credit.

Tickets for her Sarasota concert go on sale on Friday, June 5.

Details: 8 p.m. Feb. 27, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Tickets: $30-$120. Information: 941-953-3368, vanwezel.org.
