Fifth Harmony and JoJo bring their 7/27 tour to Tampa

TV talent shows have spawned some of the biggest stars in country and pop music in the past 15 years or so. “American Idol” has probably had the best star-making record, including Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.

The U.S. version of “The X Factor” hasn’t kicked off the career of anyone who’s risen to that level yet, but Fifth Harmony may be heading there. The five-member girl group was formed on the show just four years ago. Their first single, “Miss Movin’ On,” went gold, as did their debut album, “Reflection.” Their next three singles, “Boss,” “Sledgehammer” and “Worth It,” all earned platinum status last year.

Fifth Harmony will be at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa on Thursday. They’re on their a national tour, called 7/27, after their latest album. It’s already their fifth national tour as headliners.

It’s usually a newer, up-and-coming act that opens these big national tours for more established groups, but Fifth Harmony’s opener had her first gold record in 2004, almost a decade before Fifth Harmony was even formed.

JoJo was just 13 when her redundantly titled hit “Leave (Get Out)” made her the youngest solo artist to chart a No. 1 song. She has maintained a decent if unspectacular career since then, both as a singer and as a film and television actor. She’s been the opening act on recent tours with Big Time Rush and Joe Jonas in recent years and has a new album, “Mad Love,” due out in October.
