If you only pay attention to mainstream music, you may have forgotten all about singer Isaac Brock and his band. But Modest Mouse has been plugging along, mostly doing live shows. Johnny Marr, the guitarist and songwriter from the Smiths, even joined for a couple of years.
Last year, the Mouse released “Strangers to Ourselves,” its first album in eight years. It wasn’t as commercially or critically successful as “Good News,” but it peaked at No. 3 on the charts.
Modest Mouse will be in Tampa this weekend, for a Saturday performance at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre.
Opening the show is Brand New, a solid second-tier alternative band from Long Island. They also reached their popular peak a few years back (they haven’t released an album since “Daisy” in 2009), but they still have an ardent fan base. Brand New’s music has been described as alt-rock or emo, and the cite Modest Mouse as an influence.
