There’s a lot more to the Suncoast Powerboat Grand Prix Festival, (which happens over the Fourth of July weekend), than boats.

In fact, one of the most popular events of the festival every year is geared toward people who have a preference for land-based travel.

The Suncoast Powerboat Grand Prix Car Show is set for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch.

The emphasis is on classic cars. It’s organized by Lance’s Cruizin to the Hop Car Shows, which stages classic car shows all over the area. If you like looking at gorgeous old cars, you’ve probably been to some of Lance’s shows in the past.

For the people who restore and care for these cars, there are prizes and trophies. For spectators, there are cool cars and great food from local restaurants, plus some prize drawings.

But the best thing about the car show is that every year it raises money for a local children. Over the years, the show has raised $14 million for kids with special needs. This year’s event benefits Suncoast Charities for Children.
