Peterson Brothers play St. Petersburg
A couple of years ago, the Peterson Brothers were voted the Best Under-18 Band at the Austin Music Awards. It's not often that a blues band wins in that category, given Austin's preponderance of alt-rock and Americana acts.
Maybe even more significantly, that same year at the Austin Music Awards the Peterson Brothers also placed sixth for Best Blues/Soul/Funk Band, and Alex Peterson placed sixth for Best Bass. They were 16 and 14 years old at the time, and performing in one of America's music capitals.
The Peterson brothers are still in their teens, but they hold their own against the big boys. If you happened to catch them at WMNF's Tropical Heatwave in Tampa a few months back, you know that they were one of the hottest acts in a festival packed with great bands.
Guitarist Glenn Peterson is now 18, bassist brother Alex just 16. They released their first album, aptly titled "The Peterson Brothers," in June, and it's been getting over-the-top reviews from such publications as the Washington Post.
They'll be at the Palladium in downtown St. Petersburg on Friday. They're not upstairs in the main hall, but in the more intimate (175 seats) Side Door, which ought to be a great place to see the young band who have been called "the future of the blues" by at least one blues publication.
Details: 8 p.m. Oct. 23, the Palladium, 253 Fifth Ave. N., St. Petersburg. Tickets: $12 advance, $15 day of show, $25 reserved. Information: 727-822-3590, mypalladium.org.
