‘Summer House' Reunion Frenzy: Bravo Exec Says He's 'Never Seen Anything Like It' as Fans Pack NYC Theaters

The Vanderpump Rules' "Scandoval" reunion may have dominated Bravo headlines, but the Summer House scandal involving Amanda Batula and West Wilson has become a full-blown phenomenon of its own - one Bravo executive says the season 10 reunion has completely rocked the network's universe.

"I was expecting the fans to be engaged, but I was surprised at how engaged they were," Bravo VP of current production Josh Brown told The Hollywood Reporter of part one of a three-part reunion. "There was either cheering or clapping or laughing or booing every 15 seconds. It just showed the incredible connection the fans have to the series and how meaningful it is to them."

That reaction wasn't limited to the cast or the reunion stage. Bravo's official viewing event for part one of the three-part reunion sold out in seconds, filling multiple AMC auditoriums in New York City with fans who reacted in real time - cheering, booing, and laughing throughout the screening.

For network executives, the scale of the response underscored how quickly the series has evolved into a communal, almost live-event viewing experience, where audience reaction is as much a part of the story as what's happening on screen. "It feels like something you want to experience with your own friend group," Brown said. "This exact thing isn't a common occurrence probably for most people, but it can remind them of things that have happened in their own group. It makes you want to turn to your friends and community to watch it together."

Brown added that the intensity felt closer to covering breaking news than producing traditional reality television, as producers scrambled to keep pace with developments unfolding both on camera and across social media in real time.

"Honestly, reunions are always down to the wire," he shared. "We want to film them as late as possible so that the cast can see all the episodes, and so we can generate enough viewer questions for the reunion based on all of the episodes. It's always a huge crunch to the finish line. This one is a little extra crunchy, but it's finished a couple days in advance. We're not down to the second."

The Summer House reunion has been blowing up on socials since it first aired on Tuesday and Brown anticipates equally strong returns. "We haven't gotten [the seven-day] ratings yet. It's going to take a little bit. I expect it to be popular," he said. "We were trending No. 1 on Twitter and you see on all sorts of social how much people are talking about it. I'm just happy that viewers seem to be having a good reaction, because we felt like we had to do the fans right here by making a great reunion."

The second part of the Summer House Season 10 three-part reunion airs on Tuesday, June 2, at 8 p.m. on Bravo.
