Florida-born pop-R&B star Jason Derulo is coming to Sarasota.

The multi-platinum-selling recording artist could probably sell out some of the biggest venues in the area, thanks to such massive hits as “Whatcha Say,” “In My Head,” “Want to Want Me” and “Swalla.” But local audiences will get to so see him in an intimate private concert at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Sarasota.

Derulo is the latest major recording star to headline the Forty Carrots Family Center’s Firefly Gala. The gala is set for April 21.

It’s great that such a major star is performing a small concert, but that means that it’s going to be difficult to get in. It’s invitation-only, and if you’re not already on the list you can call 941-365-7716 for information about how to be invited. (You’ll probably have to become a sponsor; it’s not the kind of event that people can just buy tickets for.)

Forty Carrots Family Center provides vital programs for children and families across Sarasota and Manatee Counties. In the past year alone, has served more than 4,000 clients, and almost all of its services are free for recipients.

The annual Firefly Gala is a major fundraiser for the center. In past year’s headliners have included Flo Rida, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Bret Michaels and KC & The Sunshine Band.
