‘Siesta Key’ returns for new episodes starting Jan. 15
Here’s a little Christmas gift (though not really a surprise) for fans of “reality” TV and of very attractive rich people.
“Siesta Key,” the hit MTV show that’s filmed mostly in Sarasota County, will be back with new episodes. A post on the show’s Facebook page just announced its return beginning at 10 p.m. Jan. 15. That’s a Monday, so the show will be in the same time slot that it held in its first season.
The show, which has been compared to earlier MTV hits “The Hills” and “Laguna Beach,” follows a group of people in their 20s who live in and around Siesta Key. Lots of recognizable Sarasota-area venues are featured prominently.
Promotional photos and a trailer suggest that the cast will be expanded.
“Winter brings outsiders trying to become insiders,” the voice-over on the trailer says, as one cast member introduces a young woman named Canvas.
In one scene in the trailer, cast member Alex Kompothecras is shown with a bandage wrapped over the top of his head and down under his jaw.
“His jaw is, like, wired shut,” cast member Chloe Trautman says. “Hopefully this is a wake-up call for him.”
Kompothecras was the victim of an assault at a Tampa bar in September that left him with a broken jaw.
Other scenes in the trailer hint at more interpersonal dramas, including intra-cast infidelities and jealousies, and some threats from newcomers to the show who become involved with season one cast members.
“So the beach?” the voice-over says. “Yeah, it’s beautiful. But some things are starting to get ugly.”
