‘Decades Rewind’ brings 30 years of oldies to Van Wezel
Most people like oldies from one era or another. And whatever era is yours, chances are you’ll get a taste of it from “Decades Rewind.”
“Decades Rewind” isn’t your standard oldies show. Besides more than a dozen singers and instrumentalists, it features a multimedia concert that starts with the music of the 1980s and works backward in time to the 1960s.
That was a fertile and diverse 30-year period of popular music, so the show includes disco, funk, Motown, rock and no doubt some numbers that don’t quite fit into the standard genres.
The show tours around the country, and has played around the Bradenton area a couple of times in the past. But if you missed it, you have another chance. It’s coming to Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall for one performance on Friday night.
Besides the music, played (according to the Van Wezel website) by “world-class” entertainers and “award-winning vocalists,” “Decades Rewind” features video presentations designed to tug at your heartstrings as you recall key moments from your youth, plus a theatrical presentation with more than 100 costume changes.
If you can’t make the Van Wezel show, there’s a holiday version called “Decades Rewind Sleigh Ride” that will stop at the Manatee Performing Arts Center on Dec. 22-23.
Details: 8 p.m. Nov. 17, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. $37.50, $62.50. One child can get in free with each paid adult ticket. 941-953-3368, vanwezel.org.
