Asolo Rep wants to give your canine a chance to break a leg
Has your dog always dreamed of becoming a star?
Well, how would you, know, really? But maybe you think you’ve got the coolest dog in the world and that he or she belongs on the stage.
Asolo Repertory Theatre is offering you, and your dog, that shot at stardom.
Between 3 and 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 Asolo Rep will host canine auditions. The theater is looking for an “adorably scruffy” dog that will be featured in the upcoming production of “Shakespeare in Love.”
The theater is looking specifically for a “friendly, mid-size dog with a gentle disposition and an ability to jump.” If your dog gets the part, he or she will work with a professional trainer before auditions start, and you and the dog will attend rehearsals (starting Nov. 28) and performances (in rotating repertory Jan. 10-March 28). The audition, rehearsals and performances will all be at the FSU Center of the Performing Arts, 5555 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota,
If you’re interested, you’ll need to make an appointment for an audition. Here’s how: send an email to Literary_casting@asolo.org, with the subject line: Shakespeare in Love: Dog Auditions. The email should include your preferred audition time, your name, name and breed of your dog and a contact phone number. Casting officials will get back to you and answer questions.
