If you like variety in your orchestral concerts, the first entry in this year’s “Great Escapes” series from the Sarasota Orchestra should be right up your musical alley.

The concert is titled “By Special Arrangement,” and it focuses on how music that was composed for solo instruments, bands or small ensemble is transformed into orchestral work, and the ways in which that transformation can enhance the musical experience.

The pieces in the program originated as classical compositions, rock songs, and film and Broadway scores, and have all been arranged for an orchestra.

The programs includes:

  • Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dance No. 1 in C Major, Op. 46 No. 1”
  • Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance No. 3 in F Major”
  • Ravel’s “Menuet from Le tombeau de Couperin”
  • The Bach/Stokowski “Toccata in D Minor”
  • Ives’ “Variations on America,” arranged by Shuman
  • Bennett’s arrangement of Rodgers’ “Overture from South Pacific”
  • “More,” the theme from the film “Mondo Cane,” by Ortolani, Olivero and Hayman
  • Selden’s “When I Fall in love,” from the musical revue “Small Wonder,” arranged by Custer
  • Miranda’s “Dear Theodosia,” from “Hamilton,” arranged by White
  • Lennon and McCartney’s “All You Need Is Love,” arranged by Healey.

The Wednesday and Friday concerts are shorter and omit a few of those pieces.

Details: Oct. 11-14, Holley Hall at Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, 7: 30 p.m Thursday, 8 p.m. Saturday. $39-$62. 941-953-3434, sarasotaorchestra.org.
