Sixties music, live theater, rowers from around the world highlight free event
You don’t have to make the trek down to Sarasota to enjoy a sunset on the bay, but Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall has some incentives that should make the trip worthwhile.
On Saturday, Van Wezel will host a free Sunset on the Bay event, outside on the grounds of the hall, right there on the shore of Sarasota Bay.
The weather has cooled down just a bit and we’re still seeing some of those glorious summer sunsets, but what makes this Sunset on the Bay special is live entertainment and special guests.
The music will come from Yesterdayze, a nationally touring band that plays nothing but hits from the 1960s. Among the band’s repertoire are songs by the Beatles, the Monkees, the Animals, the Temptations, the Supremes, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Doors, Jefferson Airplane, the Rolling Stones, Santana, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Sonny & Cher and Johnny Cash.
Performers from Sarasota’s Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will also be on hand.
The special guests are athletes from the World Rowing Championships, which are going on this week at Nathan Benderson Park. The championships are drawing spectators from around the world, and some of them are likely to attend Sunset on the Bay, so there should be an international feel to the evening.
