NPR’s ‘Snap Judgment’ comes to Tampa for live taping
If you listen to NPR on weekends, maybe trying to catch “Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me,” “A Prairie Home Companion” or reruns of “Car Talk,” you may have stumbled across “Snap Judgment.”
And if so, you probably loved it.
It may not have the long history or the name recognition of some of its neighboring shows on the NPR Saturday lineup, but “Snap Judgment” is smart, compelling and really fun radio.
And this weekend, host and producer Glynn Washington is bringing the show to Tampa for a taping.
It will be Friday night at Tampa Theatre, the gorgeous and historic movie house in the heart of downtown Tampa.
Audiences will get to see and hear Renaissance man Washington and some of the best storytellers in the English language, live on stage, accompanied by the Snap Judgment band.
The stories are riveting on the air, but the press material about the live show suggests that it will be a multi-media presentation, including film and web content.
The show premiered five years ago, and its concept of having great storytellers gives us a look into the lives of of strangers (not celebrities, mostly). It has been a hit with audiences and it’s now broadcast on nearly 400 NPR stations and downloaded millions of time each month.
