Lil Wayne brings his Kloser 2 U tour to Jannus Live in St. Pete

The great news, if you’re a Lil Wayne fan, is that you can see him Friday night in a great, small venue less than a half-hour from Bradenton.

The bad news is that the venue is outdoors, and it’s quite likely that you’ll encounter some thunderstorms Friday evening.

But maybe you’ll luck out and the rain will by pass the venue or be brief. Bring some rain gear just in case, though.

The venue is Jannus Live in downtown St. Petersburg. Its capacity is about 2,000 people.

Lil Wayne is currently on a tour called Kloser 2 U, in which he’s performing at smaller venues to give fans a more-intimate experience.

He’s only 34 years old, but Lil Wayne has been making music for a quarter-century. He first came into the public eye when he was 9 years old and was signed by Cash Money Records. He joined Hot Boys (best known for their song “Bling Bling”) when he was 14 and released his first solo album, “The Block Is Hot,” in 1999. It went platinum, and each of his 11 studio albums that he’s released since have made it to No. 1 or 2 on the R&B chart.

There are few bigger stars in popular music, and it’s unusual to get to see someone of Lil Wayne’s stature in a smaller venue. It’s general admission and there are very few places to sit, so you’ll probably have to stand unless you get there extremely early.
