It’s close to a century ago that the music of the Jazz Age was the soundtrack for America, but almost everyone still knows and loves that musical era.

Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota is celebrating the popular music from the decade of flappers and speakeasies with a cabaret show titled “ROAR! The Music of the 1920s and Beyond.” It’s the last official show of the season for FST and it opens Tuesday in the John C. Court Cabaret.

The show marks the FST debut of acclaimed Carole Bufford, whom reviewers in New York City have called “a sizzling cabaret performer” with a “bright, rangy voice” and “one of cabaret’s brightest rising stars.” She has performed all over the United States, including an appearance with Michael Feinstein in his Great American Songbook series at New York’s Lincoln Center, and she recently made her London debut.

“ROAR!” features classics from the Jazz Age songbook made famous by Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong, Helen Morgan, Ruth Etting, Al Jolson and many others.

The show is likely to be very popular, but you’ve got plenty of time to catch it. It runs for more than a month, through Sept. 24.

Details: Aug. 22-Sept. 24, John C. Court Cabaret, at Florida Studio Theatre, 1241 N. Palm Ave, Sarasota. $38-$41. 941-366-9000, floridastudiotheatre.org.
