If you’re a guy and you’ve always wanted to wear a plaid skirt when you go to Motorworks, Saturday is the night you’ve been waiting for.

It’s Kilt Night, coming to Motorworks for the first time.

New World Celts of Sarasota, an organization that celebrates Celtic culture, puts on similar events in Sarasota about once a month, but this is the first time it has brought the event to Bradenton.

It’s a full night (from early in the evening until midnight) of entertainment, food and prizes, all revolving around the traditional culture of Ireland, Scotland and other nearby areas.

Among the attractions at the first Motorworks Kilt Night are a couple area bands that play Irish music (Blue Skye Pipes & Drums, a Sarasota group made up entirely of women, and Celtic Conundrum), a couple traditional Irish dance companies (the Drake School of Irish Dance and Fiona O’Reilly) and a full menu of traditional Celtic food.

There’s also a raffle with all sorts of Celtic goodies.

New World Celts is a non-profit with chapters around the Southeastern area of the United States, but mostly in Florida. It has chapters in Bradenton, Sarasota, Brandon, Dunedin, Charlotte County, Orlando, St. Petersburg and Tampa. Among its missions is “to promote awareness of the outstanding contributions and history of the Celtic Peoples in the formation and continuance of the New World,” but a lot of its events, including Kilt Night, are mostly just for fun.
