Counting Crows and Matchbox Twenty perform together at Tampa’s amphitheatre
If you’re not paying close attention, you might think of the Counting Crows as a one-hit wonder. The band’s biggest hit, by far, was their debut single, “Mr. Jones,” an international smash in 1993.
But the band has been playing all this time, with distinctive singer Adam Duritz out front, and the Crows have made a ton of great music and released a stream of fairly solid-selling albums in the years since.
The Counting Crows even earned an Academy Award nomination for “Accidentally in Love,” which was featured in “Shrek 2.”
Still featuring several members from the early-’90s lineup, the Counting Crows will perform Tuesday at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa.
Also on the bill is Matchbox Twenty, the Orlando band that reached international stardom in the mid-1990s.
Matchbox Twenty also has its key member still in the fold, singer Rob Thomas. In fact, all of the current members of the band are original members. (The original rhythm guitarist, Adam Gaynor, left the band in 2005 and wasn’t replaced.
The joint tour is called “A Brief History of Everything,” which makes an interesting juxtaposition with John Mayer’s “The Search for Everything” tour, which will be at Tampa’s Amalie Arena this weekend.
Details: 6:45 p.m. Aug. 15, MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre, 4802 U.S. 301, Tampa. $16-$160 plus service charge. 813-740-2446, livenation.com.
