Pros join Sarasota Cuban Ballet School students at opera house
The performing arts slow down a bit in the summer months around here, and classical ballet is especially absent from our arts calendars. In fact, there’s almost none until the Sarasota Ballet cranks up its season in the fall.
One happy exception is the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School’s annual On Stage Performance, in which the students from the school are joined by noted professionals for an evening of dance.
The performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday — there’s just the one show — at the Sarasota Opera House.
The special guests are Francois Llorente, a former soloist of Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Francisco Serrano of the Royal Ballet and Kalle Sascha Wigle of the Royal Swedish Ballet.
By the way, if that’s not enough ballet to sate your classical dance appetite until fall (or if you simply have other plans for that evening), you might want to also catch the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School’s Summer Intensive Program Showcase, at 2 p.m. that same afternoon, also at the opera house. The showcase features Sarasota Cuban Ballet School’s performing ballet classics and exciting new works. Tickets for the afternoon performance are $25.
Details: 7 p.m. July 29, Sarasota Opera House, 61 N. Pineapple Ave., Sarasota. $35-$65. 941-328-1300, srqcubanballet.com.
