He’s a former R&B rocker known for high-energy albums and electrifying live shows who turned into the king of soft rock and is now more likely to croon a Gershwin tune than a Sam Cooke song.

She’s a former MTV synth pop princess known for her unusual upbeat persona who turned to musical exploration, acting and a more-recent career as a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical composer.

Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper are setting out on a national tour together, and the second stop is Saturday at Amalie Arena in Tampa.

They both had their biggest hits decades ago, but this is no oldies show. Lauper released a critically acclaimed country album called “Detour” last year, and she won her Tony Award for the score of “Kinky Boots” just four years ago. (She was the first woman who was not part of a songwriting team to win the Best Original Score Tony.)

Stewart is still releasing albums, and just a few years ago he returned to songwriting after many years of recording classics from the Great American Songbook and other covers.

You can expect both artists to do songs from all phases of their careers. So you may get “Time After Time” and “Hold Me in Your Heart” from her, and “Maggie May” and “Fly Me to the Moon” from him.

If you’re lucky, he will skip “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy.”
