U2 brings its ‘Joshua Tree’ tour to Raymond James Stadium
U2’s seminal album “The Joshua Tree” came out 30 years ago, and the band is marking the anniversary by touring the world with a concert that focuses on that album’s songs.
The tour comes to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Wednesday.
The album propelled U2 from its status as a popular and highly respected band into superstardom, with such massive hits as “With or Without You,” “Where the Streets Have No Name” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” helping to make U2 the biggest Irish band of all time.
The concerts on the tour have been starting with some of U2’s most familiar songs from others albums, including “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “New Year’s Day” and “Pride (In the Name of Love),” and then moving into a performance of “The Joshua Tree” in its entirely – and in order. That’s followed by a six-song encore.
OneRepublic in the opening act. The Colorado band can fill arenas when it headlines shows, so it’s a better-than-average support act.
OneRepublic hit the big time out of the box with its debut album “Dreaming Out Loud,” and the single “Apologize” in 2007, and has remained popular. Its newest album, “Oh My My,” came out in October and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 200.
