TNT is already figuring that “Claws” will be a hit.
The drama that centers around a fictional nail salon in Palmetto hasn’t even premiered yet — that happens at 9 p.m. Sunday — but the network has already filed paperwork to film season 2.
The series shoots primarily in and around New Orleans because Louisiana offers better incentives, so that’s where the network filed paperwork. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that TNT told the state that work would begin in October, and would take 104 days with a budget of $48.6 million.
Industry sources report that “Claws” is the most heavily promoted new show on television. The action revolves around a colorful group of women who own and work in a salon called Nail Artisans of Manatee County. They get involved in organized crime by laundering money for a neighboring, borderline-legal, pain clinic. It’s billed as a comedy-drama but the emphasis is on the drama.
The cast features some actors who will be familiar to a lot of TV viewers, including Niecy Nash, Carrie Preston, Harold Perrineau, Jenn Lyon, Judy Reyes, Karrueche Tran, Jason Antoon and Dean Norris.
