Harry Potter on the screen, live orchestra on the stage

It’s 16-year-old movie that will screen a few months from now, but tickets are selling fast at up to $100 a pop.

Starting in late September, the Florida Orchestra will perform the music from “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” while the 2001 film shows in high-definition on a huge screen at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa.

That’s more than four months from now, and tickets just went on sale Friday, but demand has already been so great that the orchestra has added an extra show.

The concert was originally set for 7:30 Sept. 20 and 2 p.m. Oct. 1. The additional show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29. They’re all in Morsani Hall, the largest of the Straz Center theaters. Tickets run $45-$95 plus service charge.

It’s part of the Harry Potter Film Concert Series, a new global concert tour that started in June. It’s scheduled to include hundreds of performances across more than 35 countries through 2018.

Details: Sept. 29-Oct. 1, Morsani Hall at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 N. MacInnes Place, Tampa. 7:30 p.m. Sept, 29-30, 2 p.m. Oct. 1. $45-$95 plus service charge. 813-229-7827, strazcenter.org.
