There’s plenty of arts and entertainment in the Sarasota area all year long. But if you’re an aficionado of hoedowns, most weekends you’re out of luck.
Not this weekend, though. The annual Cowboy Hoedown is set for Saturday at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium.
It’s organized by the Sarasota FFA Alumni Association, and it serves as a fundraiser for local FFA programs. (The FFA, as you probably know if you’re at all interested in hoedowns, is a national organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership.)
The music for this year’s hoedown comes from One Night Rodeo, a country duo that started as a local act in the Bradenton area but earned a national reputation when they won the “The Next GAC Star” competition out of thousands of contestants. They’ve played shows with Rascal Flats, Keith Urban, Montgomery Gentry, Charlie Daniels and lots of other major country stars. They scored country radio hits with “We Could Go To Jail” and “Real Good.”
You have to be 21 to get in, and you should bring your own food and beverages, including liquor. Everything has to be in plastic containers though; cans and glass containers are not allowed. Bottled water and soft drinks will be on sale at the event.
Advance tickets are available at several area businesses, including Stockyard Feed & Western Wear, Albritton Fruit Company, Myakka Ranch and Feed, Fruitville Feed and Redneck Outpost, A&P Industrial, Mader Electric, Albritton's Nursery.
