Baseball | Out-of-Door Academy's Desmond Lindsay signs with New York Mets

Out-of-Door Academy baseball player Desmond Lindsay announced Friday he'll report to the Gulf Coast League Mets in Port St. Lucie on the heels of signing with the New York Mets at Citi Field on Thursday.

The Mets selected Lindsay with the 53rd overall pick on June 8th in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Lindsay had planned to head to Chapel Hill, N.C., in the fall to play college baseball at the University of North Carolina.

Following last summer's travel ball tournament and showcase slate, Lindsay said he started seeing interest from MLB clubs. He also started making the transition from a corner infield position to outfield.

Lindsay, though, only played five games in the outfield for the Thunder before injuring his hamstring for a second time in his career. The injury forced him to miss the remainder of the season, roughly the last three months.

Lindsay said upon reporting to the Mets on Monday, he will continue completing his rehab.
