Prep football | Braden River's Salguero, Huesman, and Palmetto's Belvin get college offers

Braden River offensive lineman Alex Salguero received offers from Marshall and Mercer universities, and quarterback Jacob Huesman received an offer from Samford University on Tuesday, according to Pirates head football coach Curt Bradley.

At Palmetto, rising senior defensive end David Belvin has picked up an offer from Marshall, according to head coach Dave Marino and Palmetto High's athletic program via Twitter. Belvin racked up 61 total tackles last fall, with 14 going for a loss and was credited with 4 1/2 sacks as a junior.

Salguero started each of Braden River's 11 games last year and did not allow a sack.

Marshall, an FBS school, finished 13-1 last year, won the Conference USA title and defeated Northern Illinois in the Boca Raton Bowl. Mercer (FCS) is a member of the Southern Conference.

Samford (FCS) also plays in the Southern Conference and is coached by Pat Sullivan, former quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner at Auburn in 1971.

Last year Huesman, came out of virtually nowhere in earning first team Bradenton Herald All-Area honors. He threw for 1,946 yards with 17 touchdowns and only three interceptions to lead Braden River to its first district title and first undefeated regular season.
