PALMETTO -- Palmetto varsity baseball coach Phil Olson formally announced his resignation Wednesday at the team banquet.
Olson, 41, spent 18 years in coaching, including the past four years as Palmetto's head coach and nine years as Southeast's head coach. The former Riverview High and Florida State pitcher was drafted by the New York Mets and played for three years in the organization.
"I told myself when I first started coaching that I wouldn't coach longer than I played, just to give back to the game," Olson said. "My debt is paid."
Olson won two district titles while coaching the Seminoles. The Tigers finished 7-19 this past season.
