Local roundup | Southeast boys basketball falls, but Ronald Taylor joins 1,000-point club

Ronald Taylor reached the 1,000-point plateau, scoring 27 points, but the Southeast boys basketball team suffered an 86-71 loss at home against St. Petersburg Lakewood on Friday night.

Taylor entered the game needing just one point for the milestone. Trey Alexandrea assisted on Taylor's made jumper, the first shot of the game for either team.

Alexandrea added 23 points and seven assists for Southeast (10-12). Corey Davis had nine rebounds for the Seminoles.

CARDINAL MOONEY 66, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN  49 -- The Cougars received strong games from multiple players, led by Ryan McMahon's 19 points, seven assists and five steals in a home rout over the Panthers (14-5).

Blair Perry finished with 11 points, six assists and six steals for Cardinal Mooney (18-1). Mitch Arimura added 10 points and 6 boards, and Justin Najimy chipped in 9 points and 4 assists.

SARASOTA MILITARY ACADEMY 82, SAINT STEPHEN'S  72 -- The host Falcons (4-12) got 27 points from Jordon Murrell in a losing effort.

Sid Price added 15 points, and Nick Runde had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jake Westberry contributed 10 points.

Girls basketball

MANATEE 54, FORT MYERS BISHOP VEROT 34 -- Jacqui Armer scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the host Hurricanes past the Vikings.

Jada Guion chipped in with 13 points for Manatee (7-13).

Boys soccer

MANATEE 7, BAYSHORE 0 -- Jacob Titsworth scored three goals and had an assist, and Colton Clark recorded two goals and three assists as the visiting Hurricanes routed the Bruins.

Tyler Robinson and Juan Reyes also scored for Manatee (12-3-2). Robinson and Travis Dye had assists.

SOUTHEAST 3, CARDINAL MOONEY 2 -- The host Seminoles scored two goals in the second half after missing a penalty kick to rally back and defeat the Cougars.

Abdell Rivas netted 2 goals for Cardinal Mooney (13-4), and Josh Gutierrez added 1 goal.
