Local roundup | Southeast routs Gibbs to finish out perfect season in district

Tay Green and Sophie Giardina each scored 14 points in one half of action Thursday as the Southeast girls basketball team finished up a second straight perfect district campaign with a 75-23 victory over visiting St. Petersburg Gibbs.

Jassmine Williams added 13 points, and Marline Valcin pulled down 10 rebounds for the Seminoles (19-3, 8-0 Class 5A-District 10). Faith Mays and Johnelle Clark had eight points apiece.

MANATEE 51, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 30 -- O'Neesha Shaw and Jada Guion scored 10 points apiece, and Deanay Watson pulled down 15 rebounds, 11 of them on the offensive end, as the host Hurricanes (5-13) rocked the Panthers.

Katie Swaagman paced BCS with 11 points.

Boys basketball

PALMETTO 73, SARASOTA 57 -- Tre Clark poured in 23 points, and Khalil Garcia pitched in with 16 as the host Tigers improved to 10-7, 5-2 in Class 7A-District 10.

Kyle Edwards contributed 13 points and eight rebounds for Palmetto.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 67, OUT OF DOOR ACADEMY 62 -- The host Falcons defeated the Thunder behind 29 points from Jake Westberry in a Class 3A-District 10 game.

Jordon Murrell added 18 points for Saint Stephen's (4-11, 1-5).

Boys soccer

SOUTHEAST 3, LAKEWOOD RANCH 1 -- Ricardo Gallardo, Johnny Salgado and Luis Garcia scored second-half goals as the visiting Seminoles (12-4) slipped past the Mustangs.

Garcia and Daniel Johnson had assists, and Josh Karg made for saves for Southeast.

PALMETTO 8, BAYSHORE 0 -- Senior Julio Cantu celebrated Senior Night with two goals as the host Tigers (9-3-3) ran past the Bruins.

Seniors Brian Tovar, Louis Valente and Eduardo Martinez also scored for Palmetto. Tovar and Martinez also had assists as did classmate Raul Loera. Senior goalkeepers Andy Perez and Matt Simmonds combined for four saves and the shutout.

The other goals came from Jorge Morales (two) and Freddy Manriquez.
