Swaagman leads Panthers to OT win on birthday

Katie Swaagman celebrated her 18th birthday with a 20-point performance as the visiting Bradenton Christian Panthers (9-8) beat the Lakeland Christian Vikings 46-44 in overtime.

Swaagman sank a three-pointer at the regulation buzzer to tie the score and send the game into overtime. She then scored four of the team's six points in OT and the game-winning basket.

Teammate Megan Dozeman added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers.

SOUTHEAST 56, GULFPORT BOCA CIEGA 38 -- Three Seminoles players scored in double figures in a Class 5A-District 12 victory over the host Pirates (7-9). Leading the offense for the Noles (18-3, 7-0) were Breyonna Reed with 14 points and Sophie Giardina and Marline Balcin with 10 apiece.

Southeast's junior varsity squad improved to 14-4 with a 50-36 victory, led by Briana Turington with 14 points and Jazzman White (10 points, 12 rebounds).

LAKEWOOD RANCH 3, SAINT STEPHEN'S 3 -- The host Falcons secured a tie with the Mustangs with a last-kick goal by senior Andrew Zandomenego on an assist by Alex Virgillio on Senior Night.

Also scoring for the Falcons were Henry Howell (unassisted) and Andrew Csubak (assisted by Antonio Colacci).

Senior Garret Barnes shared goalkeeping duties with freshman Trevor Mulqueen for the Falcons (10-1-3), who also honored seniors Michael Gharby and Chris Pollan.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 3, BAYSHORE 0 -- The host Thunder blanked the visiting Bruins in a non-district matchup.

The Thunder put up three goals in the first half before the game was called because of weather. ODA will be back in action next week for the district tournament.

PALMETTO 1, MANATEE 1 -- The host Tigers and Hurricanes played to a weather-shortened draw. The match at Palmetto (8-3-3) was called at halftme because of lightning. Franky Arroyo scored for the Tigers off a cross from Jose Luis Luna. Matt Simmonds had five saves in goal for the Tigers.

Luis Segura Gonzalez scored a goal for Manatee (10-3-2).
