Free throws lift BCS boys to tight win
Ryan Leunk scored 26 points, and J.T. Noellert nailed two free throws with three seconds remaining as the Bradenton Christian boys basketball team defeated visiting Sarasota Military Academy 77-75 on Monday.
The Panthers (7-1) also got 18 points from Noellert and 16 from Vincent Rehfeldt. The Eagles suffered their first loss and stand 6-1.
SOUTHEAST 54, ST. PETERSBURG GIBBS 27 -- The Seminoles improved to 11-0, 4-0 in Class 5A-District 10, by doubling up the host Gladiators.
Shauntavia Green led the way with 19 points, and Faith Mays had 12 for Southeast. Marline Valcin contributed 10 rebounds, and Breyonna Reed had seven assists.
LAKEWOOD RANCH 67, MANATEE 21 -- LaDazhia Williams scored 25 points and had seven rebounds and seven steals to carry the host Mustangs (9-3) past the Hurricanes.
Kailyn Scully contributed 12 points, and Elise Spiller had 11. Jacqui Armer led Manatee with nine points and 11 rebounds.
JV: The Mustangs junior varsity team improved to 5-0 with a 50-12 win over the Hurricanes. Sarah Fazio had 12 points, and Emma Fazio had 11.
LAKEWOOD RANCH 7, PUNTA GORDA CHARLOTTE 1 -- The Mustangs rolled on the road. No other details were available.
SAINT STEPHEN'S 8, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 0 -- Antonio Colaccio and Alex Virgilio each scored twice to lead the host Falcons (5-0-2, 3-0-2 Class 1A-District 7).
Andrew Zandomenego, Jon Boyd, Henry Howell and Ben Whorf also scored for Saint Stephen's. Colaccio added three assists, and Howell had two.
LAKEWOOD RANCH 8, PUNTA GORDA CHARLOTTE 0 -- Talia Falco and Caitlyn Klein scored a pair of goals apiece as the host Mustangs rolled to 12-0-1, 9-0-1 in Class 4A-District 11.
Julia Ortiz, Sophia Falco, Sydney Larson and Katie Wilson also netted a goal for Lakewood Ranch. Maddison Krstec had two assists.
BRADEN RIVER 4, VENICE 3 -- Carly Provan scored all four goals, and the host Pirates (7-9, 5-6 Class 4A-District 11) held off the Tarpons. Carley Engleberger had two assists for Braden River.
JUNIOR VARSITY -- Maria Sanchez, Leonela Sanchez and Melissa Pineda scored for Southeast in a 3-2 victory over Sarasota Christian.
