The scoop: Southeast has won only one game but it was the right one. If the Seminoles defeat DeSoto, they will be in sole possession of first place in the district with two district games remaining. ... The Noles seem to have found their offense and DeSoto's highly touted quarterback, Reggie Jones, did not play last week against Frostproof and could be out again with a sprained knee. ... Southeast has scored a combined 49 points in its past two games. Though they were losses to Manatee and Riverview, the Noles showed a passing game that is tough to stop with quarterback James Thomas. In those games, the senior completed a combined 35 of 75 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for three touchdowns. ... The tall, athletic Jones is the catalyst for DeSoto. The Bulldogs suffered their first loss (20-15) last week with him out. The offense cannot be expected to run with the same efficiency without Jones. DeSoto is averaging 37.6 points per game with him at quarterback. In three quarters against Bayshore, Jones rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns and threw two TD passes. ... Southeast has a great opportunity to turn its season around and show it has made progress under new coach John Warren.

Last week's home loss to Class 7A Braden River featured several crucial penalties that turned third-and-short or fourth-and-short situations into third-and-long and fourth-and-long situations. ... Hardee isn't the same team as the 2013 version that went 11-2 en route to a region championship game. However, the Wildcats are a formidable force at home this season. Hardee has outscored opponents 58-27 in two home victories. The Wildcats have won eight of their previous nine home games. ... Keyonte Holley rolled up 178 rushing yards on 27 carries and three scores in a 35-14 victory over Avon Park. ... Hardee mustered up 350 rushing yards on 54 attempts as a team.

The scoop: This is the first of three straight district tilts for the Patriots, who are still in contention for a playoff berth. ... Carrollwood Day is a run-oriented offense with 183.6 rushing yards per game compared to 95.4 passing yards per game. ... Patriots senior RB Willie Parker is the main running option with four 100-plus-yard rushing games this season and seven rushing touchdowns. ... The Panthers were gouged for 351 rushing yards last week against St. Petersburg Northside Christian. ... Mooney is coming off a 49-7 rout of St. Petersburg Catholic, the team that ended its season the year before in the playoffs. ... Cougars QB Reese Vita became the program's all-time passing leader with 3,571 yards last week, while tying the program's touchdown mark with his 33rd and 34th career TD passes in the romp over the Barons. ... The Thunder will need pass protection and a balanced attack to earn their first victory against Mooney. ... ODA is averaging 234 total yards offense per game, but the Cougars have the stingiest defense in the area with 149.2 total yards allowed per game.
