Bradenton Christian's trip north to soggy St. Peterburg Keswick was well worth it.
Brett Molick intercepted a two-point conversion attempt with 18 seconds left to help the Panthers seal a 42-41 win in a non-district game.
The start of the game was delayed 45 minutes because of rain and lightning.
BCS improved to 4-1 and has won three straight games counting its forfeit over Citrus Park Christian.
"I enjoy this team," said BCS coach Allan Gerber. "And the team is starting to find itself in all three phases."
Wade Carter had a pair of touchdown catches, and Zack Cooper ran for two scores for the Panthers. Dusty Peebles added a rushing touchdown, and Brett Gerber returned a fumble 60 yards for BCS's other score.
The Panthers head to Largo next week to face Indian Rocks Christian in a Class 2A-District 5 game. BCS is 1-1 in the district and Indian Rocks is 2-0.
TAMPA CATHOLIC 20, CARDINAL MOONEY 7 -- For the second year in a row, the Cougars saw their perfect season ended by the Crusaders.
Stymied by a muddy field, visiting Cardinal Mooney managed only a 23-yard touchdown pass from Reese Vita to Blair Perry and suffered its first defeat after a 4-0 start. The Cougars started 3-0 last season before falling 43-0 at home against Tampa Catholic.
The Crusaders (1-4) took the lead with an interception return for a touchdown by Derek Ortiz on the final play of the first half and held on for the non-district victory. Tampa Catholic put the game away early in the fourth quarter on a 63-yard pass from Kevin Knox to Darius Corbett.
Cardinal Mooney has a bye next week before hosting St. Petersburg Catholic in a non-district game.
MANATEE COUNTY TOURNAMENT -- Lakewood Ranch, Braden River, Manatee and Saint Stephen's won their first matches during pool play at Braden River.
The tournament resumes 8 a.m. Saturday with the finals scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
The Hurricanes will be defending their back-to-back county championships.
MANATEE HEAT 3, SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 2 -- The host HEAT outlasted the Blazers 24-26, 25-17, 23-25, 25-15 and 15-13.
Isabella LaVassaur had 21 kills and Courtney Krause added 30 assists for the HEAT (10-1). Mariah Dunlop had 10 kills and Macenzie Krause led the offense with 12 digs for the winners.
LAKEWOOD RANCH INVITATIONAL -- Saturday's 12-team tournament slated for Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club was canceled because of Friday's heavy rains. There was no makeup date announced.
