CLERMONT -- The Lakewood Ranch softball team has fallen in its first trip to the state tournament.
Pembroke Pines Charter claimed a 4-0 victory Wednesday afternoon in a game that began on one field at the National Training Center Softball Complex and ended on another after a rain delay.
The game was delayed in the bottom of the first inning. Lakewood Ranch pitcher Huntyre Elling got out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the first inning, but the rains came as Lakewood Ranch batted in the bottom of the inning.
The Mustangs finish the season 22-7 under first-year head coach Tony Cummins.
Pembroke Pines Charter advances to meet the winner of tonight's Niceville-Melbourne Eau Gallie game for the state championship at 7 p.m. Thursday.
