HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS -- Lakewood Ranch's boys golf team posted its highest total this season in the opening round of the Class 2A boys state tournament held Tuesday morning at Mission Inn Golf & Resort's El Campeon course in Howey-in-the-Hills.
The Mustangs shot a 317 team total, which is good for a two-stroke lead over second-place Orlando Olympia after the first of two rounds. The previous high for the Mustangs was 300. Ramsey Touchberry shot a 74 to lead Lakewood Ranch. He is in third place in the individual standings, six shots behind Gainesville's Pureun Kim.
Windy weather conditions have made for a tricky layout play that much more difficult. Weather reports give the wind at only 12 miles per hour, but swirling gusts up to 35 mph.
Currently, though, Ranch is in the lead with several teams still out on the golf course. Follow @Jason__Dill on Twitter and check out Wednesday's edition of the Bradenton Herald for more on this story.
