The scoop: The battle for bragging rights in Manatee and Sarasota counties comes back to Bradenton tonight. Each squad won big in Week 1 — Booker by 24 over Sarasota, Manatee by 35 over Bayshore — but should play the third consecutive close game in this series. The Hurricanes' first-team offense, paced by quarterback Brion Carnes(45 rushing yards, 168 passing, one TD) and tailback Ben Axon (87 rushing yards, three TDs) scored on all five possessions last week. The new-look defense also performed well, holding the Bruins to 132 yards. Defensive back Shaunski Lawrence, who had nine tackles and a sack last week, will be out this week and next for disciplinary reasons. But coach Joe Kinnan likes what he has seen from guys such as Dante Hornes (three tackles) and Forrest Muller (four tackles) in the secondary, adding All-Area defensive back Duncan Isiminger (ankle injury), who hasn't played yet this season — aside from long snapping in the Kickoff Classic — may be back next week. The Tornadoes, who beat the Sailors 30-6, got over 200 rushing yards and three touchdowns last week from Maurice Brooks and Brock Waters.
The score: Booker 17, Manatee 14.
