Golf Plus | Lakewood Ranch's Lauren Lamm falls in round of 32 of Women's Amateur Championship

NOTEWORTHY

Lakewood Ranch's Lauren Lamm advanced to the match play portion of the Florida State Golf Association's 86th Women's Amateur Championship, but fell in the Round of 32 on Monday at Placida's Coral Creek Club.

Orlando's Navika Kuchakulla earned a 1-up victory over Lamm. The tournament was held at Sara Bay Country Club last year, which was won by Orlando's Emily Rymer. She repeated on Wednesday.

The West Florida Golf Tour's three-day Summer Tour stop at Tara Golf & Country Club concluded Wednesday with Bradenton's Domenico Geminiani going wire-to-wire for the victory.

His 12-under par 204 total was good for a one-shot triumph over Tampa's Brad Brunner. Lakewood Ranch's Chris Kennedy tied for third place at 10-under par.

Geminiani recorded a 69 in the final round to snag the win. The WFGT heads out of the area to Dade City and Haines City over the next couple weeks, before returning to Lakewood Ranch Country Club in mid-July.

Barry Cheesman, who won Tuesday's North Florida PGA Southwest Chapter Championship in a sudden-death playoff, has another reason to smile this week. One of his students, former Sarasota High standout Michael Colgate, claimed the Nebraska Men's Match Play Championship.

Colgate, who is heading to the University of Nebraska in the fall as a transfer, defeated former college teammate Lance Lawson 5-and-4 at The Prairie Club's Pines Course in Valentine, Neb.

Wesley Chapel's Tyler Rover edged Lakewood Ranch's William Herten for a three-shot victory in the boys 16-18 year old division of the Sarasota City Junior Championship last weekend at Bobby Jones Golf Club. Rover finished with a 3-under par 140 as the 36-hole tournament was split between the par-71 American Course and the par-72 British Course.

Bradenton's Alyssa Mercado won the girls 13-15 division with a 7-over par 150.
