Golf | Kennedy's Q-School hopes take hit with 77

Chris Kennedy’s chances to advance from PGA Tour Q-School’s first stage are likely over following Thursday’s action at the Grasslands in Lakeland.

The Lakewood Ranch resident and Cardinal Mooney boys golf coach soared to a 77 in the third round, and is tied for 72nd place with a 219 cumulative total.

Only the top 19 and ties advance to the second stage scheduled for various venues next month.

Lakewood Ranch residents Joe Monte (213 total, tie for 51st) and Doug Ferris (215, T-59th) joined Sarasota’s Joey Lamielle (212, T-45th) and Brian Ward (218, T-70th) as players unlikely to advance.The cut line currently sits at 9-under par as 25 players are at 207 or lower.
