LAKELAND -- Just call the State College of Florida baseball team a giant killer.
The Manatees have knocked off the top two seeds at the Florida College System Activities Association state tournament after Sunday night's 3-1 victory over second-seeded Chipola College at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Lakewood Ranch product Brad Zunica led SCF to victory, collecting three hits, including a home run, at the plate and pitching the final 2 2/3 innings in relief for the save.
The Manatees pitchers -- starter Frank Grandinette, Manatee product Devin Pellien and Zunica -- worked into and out of trouble all night, stranding 12 Chipola runners. The SCF defense did its part, with outfielders Michael Gizzi and Danny Lee making highlight-reel catches to stem Chipola (40-11) rallies.

Seventh-seeded SCF (39-16), which upended top-seeded St. Johns River State College in the tourney opener Friday morning, remains in the winner's bracket and will meet Northwest Florida State College (34-12) at 5 p.m. Monday. A win would guarantee the Manatees a trip to the title game.
