State College of Florida women's tennis team still in national title race

Juco tennis: SCF still in national title race

TYLER, Texas -- The State College of Florida women's tennis team stands second in the team standings after another strong day at the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament at Tyler Junior College.

The Manatees have scored 30.5 points, second only to the hosts' 36 points heading into the final two days of play.

Top singles player Laurence Porry and the No. 3 doubles team of Lacey Lapp and Abby Martinez were the only Manatees to fall as each flight moved into the semifinals.

No. 2 singles player Mariana Palacios defeated Ivanna Echezuria of Meridian 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. No. 3 singles player Lai Wei [6-3, 7-6 (7)], No. 4 singles player Ann-Sophie Porry (6-3, 6-3), No. 5 singles player Martinez [6-3, 7-6 (6)], No. 6 singles player Lapp (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) earned victories.

In doubles, the top SCF team of Laurence Porry and Palacios won twice to move into the semifinals as did Wei and Ann-Sophie Porry in No. 2 doubles.
