Juco tennis: SCF women still perfect at nationals

TYLER, Texas -- The State College of Florida women's tennis team collected six more singles wins in the second day of the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament at Tyler Junior College.

The Manatees have won all eight of their matches this far. All three doubles teams will return to action today.

No. 1 singles player Laurence Porry defeated Amy Evans of Itawamba 6-0, 6-1, and No. 2 singles player Mariana Palacios earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Sommer Burnett of Itawamba. Palacios is seeded first in her flight.

SCF's No. 3 singles player Lai Wei claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Riley Smith of USC Lancaster, and No. 4 singles player Ann-Sophie Porry won 6-, 6-0 over USC Lancaster's Ashley Pedro.

Abby Martinez, SCF's No. 5 singles player, won 6-, 6-1 over Katie Adams of Meridian, while No. 6 singles player Lacey Lapp recorded a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Leslie Martin of Meridian.

The Manatees are trying to win a junior college national title in just their second year as a program.
