Local prep sports roundup | Southeast opens with victory over Braden River

DeAngela Mathis poured in 23 points Wednesday night as the Southeast girls basketball team opened its season with a 52-39 victory over visiting Braden River.

Bevin Mays chipped in 17 points, and Keda Robinson had 10 rebounds for the Seminoles.

The Pirates (1-1) got 15 points from Madison Jaco.

MANATEE 31, BOOKER 30 -- Jasmine Luther led the host Hurricanes with 12 points in the season opener. The Tornadoes are 0-2.

n JV: Kamiya Davis and Jada Guion both had 10 points, but the Canes fell 36-31.

Girls soccer

LAKEWOOD RANCH 4, RIVERVIEW 0 -- Delaney Riggins scored twice, once on an assist from sister Aubrey, as the host Mustangs rolled over the Rams.

Angelica Rego and Taylor Young also scored for Lakewood Ranch (4-2). Kaitlin Deglman had two assists.

Juco men’s basketball

SANTA FE 72, SCF 58 -- The visiting Manatees led 29-25 at halftime but fell to 2-3 when the Saints pulled away by scoring 10 of the final 11 points.

Denzel Myers led State College of Florida with 18 points. Eric Halliwell added 14 points.
