03/08 Local roundup: Manatees blank Titans in juco baseball game

B.J. Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple and had two RBIs to lead the Manatees over the host Titans 2-0 Monday afternoon.

Ben Brown pitched seven innings with four strikeouts, two hits and three walks for the victory. Jay Murray pitched two hitless innings, striking out three, for the save. SCF (16-7) hosts the Titans at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Girls tennis

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 6, SAINT STEPHEN’S 1 -- The host Thunder dominated the Falcons by winning four of the five singles matches. The lone victor for the Falcons was Perri Anderson at No. 1 singles.

Singles-match winners for the Thunder were Michelle van Dalen (No. 2), Savannah Sleight (No. 3), Liz McGayhey (No. 4) and Amanda Arbeit at No. 5. Cheyenne Kerekes and Sleight won the No. 1 doubles match, and Caroline Whitten and Morgan Woods won at No. 2 doubles for the Thunder.

Boys tennis

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 7, SAINT STEPHEN’S 0 -- The host Thunder swept all seven matches against the visiting Falcons. Winners in the Nos. 1-5 singles matches were Daniel Tivonka, Jordy Moran, Luke Horan, Wesley Kean and Janum Trivedi. Winners in the doubles matches were Tivonka and Horan at No. 1 and Michael von Waldner and David Grain at No. 2.
