Juco baseball: SCF wins in 10th with walk-off hit

BRADENTON -- Paul Stortini led the hitting attack for the host Manatees on Sunday, going 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs as the State College of Florida beat Florida State College of Jacksonville 6-5. Brad Bell had a walk-off double in the 10th inning to drive in the winning run. Jay Murray was the winning pitcher, working 2-2/3 innings with three strikeouts. Also contributing at the plate were Brian Elliott, who went 3-for-5 with two doubles, and Louis Benitez, who was 2-for-4 with an RBI. SCF plays Wednesday at Polk State Community College for its first conference game.

Juco softball: SCF splits with Miami-Dade

MIAMI -- Ingrid Cabrera pitched a complete game for the State College of Florida, giving up two hits and notching three strikeouts for a shutout for 1-0 victory in the first game of a doubleheader with Miami-Dade College of Florida. The Manatees scored in the top of the fifth with a leadoff triple by Kelsey Maffucci and an RBI single Ashley Brooks, a freshman from Sarasota High School.

In the second game, the Manatees lost 7-6 in 10 innings to the reigning NJCAA Divsion I national champions. Angie Dascoli was 2-for-3 with a sacrafice fly. Brooks had two RBIs, Amber Evans was 2-for-4, and Cortney Sadler was 1-for-4 with an RBI double. The Manatees play a double-header on Tuesday at Santa Fe College in Gainsville.
