May 26-30: Tryouts for the Manatee Magic soccer program will begin May 26 at G.T. Bray park. Manatee Magic's U14 boys, U15 girls, U13 girls and U13 boys all advanced to the semifinals of this year's FYSA Region C Tournament and the U13 boy's finished second overall. The U11 girls, U12 boys and U13 boys teams won their respective age divisions as well. The tryout schedule is 6-8 p.m. May 26 and 9-11 a.m. May 30 for Under 11-Under 12 boys and girls, 6-8 p.m. May 27 and 11:30a.m.-1:30 p.m. May 30 for Under 13-Under 14 boys and girls and 6-8 p.m. May 28 and 2-4 p.m. May 30 for Under 15-Under 18 boys and girls. May 30: The fourth annual Bob Boast Volkswagen State Champions Scramble, honoring all state champions from Lakewood Ranch High School, will be held at 1 p.m. May 30 at Royal Lakes Course at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. The event will be a 4-man scramble ($100 per person), with an additional fifth player from the Lakewood Ranch boys and girls golf teams, present and alumni. Special honorees this year are coach Ed Bongart's girls tennis team and coach Mark Napier's track and field athletes. June 8-25: The Braden River High basketball program will hold a basketball came June 8-25 at the high school gymnasium. Braden River head coach Jason Mickan, assistant coaches and Pirates players will provide campers with the fundamental skills to help aid them in their individual development. Participants will improve through individual instruction, skill stations, competitions and team games. Awards will be given each day for "Camper of the Day", "Hustle" and "Best Attitude." The camp is open to all students entering third through ninth grades. The cost is $315 for all three weeks (1 week-rate $120, 2 week rate $220). Includes a camp T-shirt, daily awards and a basketball (if registered before June 1). There is a 10 percent discount for Manatee County school board members. Family rates and financial aid available. July 27-30: The Braden River High football team will host a football camp for incoming sixth- and ninth-graders from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 27-30 at the football stadium. The cost is $125 for all four days or $40 per day. Participants should bring cleats, athletic shoes, athletic shirt, socks, water/Gatorade and sunscreen. Head coach Curt Bradley and varsity players will be the camp instructors. The camp will include individual position drills, 40-yard dashes, one-on-one competition, and 7-on-7 flag football games. July 27-31: The Mustang Golf! Camp hosted by the Lakewood Ranch High School golf team at The Links at Greenfield Plantation will be held from 9 a.m.-noon July 27-31. Personalized instruction will be provided for male and female juniors at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Camp sessions will include practice on the range, putting green and short-game practice areas. On July 31, juniors will play the course at Greenfield Plantation and an awards presentation/banquet will take place afterward. Camp instructors include Mustangs boys head coach Dave Frantz (U.S.G.T.F. Teaching Professional, FHSAA Coach of the Year, Florida Coaches Hall of Fame) and present and former members of the boys and girls golf teams at Lakewood Ranch. The camp is open to all boys and girls ages 6-16, and the cost is $150. A discount price -- $25 off -- is available for families with more than one child. Range balls, equipment (if needed), beverages and healthy snacks are included. Participants are urged to wear "softspikes" if possible, tennis shoes if not. Also, shorts, shirts with collars, towel, sunscreen and water bottle are necessary for all campers. Trophies, T-shirt, certificates, etc. will be awarded to every participant.
