Shufflin' | Shufflers look forward to upcoming big events

Readers of this column doubtless realize that recent musings here about possible improvements in tournaments are only musings. Most of these ideas are not in force at this time.

Shortening wait times, for example, is merely a possible way to improve our sport for all participants. It is not the case that "the sky is falling" a la Chicken Little.

It is the case that impatient people use waiting as an excuse for non-participation. Actually, many of us continue to play regularly and enjoy a great time.

In fact, as you read this issue on Tuesday, a group of Southwest Coast District players will be continuing at Hollywood in the second day of singles competition. The night before, Monday the 19th, marked the induction of two of our best into the Florida Shuffleboard Hall of Fame.

Joyce Marquis of Bradenton was actually the first Lady of the SWCD when she earned her 200th point last year as she is married to our Immediate Past President Mike Marquis.

Jerry Everett of Maine and Paradise Bay also has been playing very well here for more than a decade. More on these two next week.

Enough students are pledged to have a worthwhile school at Bradenton at 9 a.m. Jan. 24. Welcome to all.

Happy shuffling.
